Meet the Artist: Q&A with Yohann Azancott

Q: What is your background? 

A: After initially studying product design, I realized it wasn't quite my calling. Visual communication, on the other hand, resonated more with me. I started with sketching portraits on illustrator, gradually expanding into commissioned work. Over time, my art evolved, incorporating intricate patterns and imbued with personality.

Q: How would you describe your "artistic style"?

A: My style is a tapestry of intricate details and mind-bending geometric designs that evoke a sense of visual harmony, inviting viewers to explore the nuances within. While it may appear heavy at first glance, it's meant to encourage closer inspection. 

Q: What do you love about the ocean?

 A: The ocean symbolizes boundless exploration and radiates a serene essence, serving as a reminder of the interconnectedness of life. Personally, the sea's calmness has always brought me comfort.

Q: Why were you interested in collaborating with Coldharbour?

Q: Describe the thought/design process behind "Ocean Party".

A: The fish mosaic captures the fluidity of aquatic life, depicting movement and vibrancy through intricate geometry. It's a harmonious blend of abstract and concrete elements.

Q: How do you want people to feel when they see your tile designs?

A: I aspire for my tile designs to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation, inviting viewers to explore the layers within and forge a personal connection with the art.

Q: What is interesting to you about tile? 

A: Tiles present a unique medium to transform art into functional design. The interplay of colors and patterns adds a touch of aesthetic wonder to everyday spaces.

 Q: What do you do in your daily life to help the environment? 

A: I'm committed to minimizing my environmental impact by utilizing sustainable materials, reducing waste, and embracing eco-friendly practices wherever possible. While it might seem like a small effort, it's a step in the right direction.

Q: What is your definition of art? 

A: Art transcends words, conveying emotions, thoughts, and perspectives that unite diverse backgrounds. It's a universal language that doesn't require translation.
